Making It Up As I Go Along
{drying wool}
Welcome to indraniperera.com - home to my adventures in making and writing! I wanted something good to set the tone for my first post. I thought making it up as you go along hit the nail on the head. As a largely self-taught maker, it's what I do with most of my creative projects.
My eldest daughter was going to a Harry Potter themed birthday party and needed a costume. What to do? Make it of course! I was all set to rush off to the shops and buy some wool to knit her a Gryffindor scarf. Luckily a little voice whispered, "check your stash first." Like most makers, I have all sorts of bits and pieces stashed in various cupboards around the house. I found some white wool and dye in the right colours. Hooray, I could make it for free!
After dyeing the wool, I had absolutely no idea how to dry it. It's not like fabric so I couldn't just peg it on the line. I came up with that cunning arrangement you see in the picture at the top of this post. Boards balanced on a clothes horse. I laid some plastic down so the boards didn't get soaked - they're my daughters' painting boards and I might have been in trouble for ruining them. It was a really cunning arrangement that didn't work at all! Undeterred, I ended up hanging the wool on the clothes horse in front of the heater to dry the wool.
I'm getting much better at making it up as I go along. Like most people, I don't really know where I'm going or what I'm going to do when I get there. I'm just trying to have as much fun as possible along the way! If that sounds like you, join me as I discover all I can about making and myself. I promise to share what I discover along the way.
