Natural Dyeing with Acacia 2

  IP - Acacia 1

IP Acacia 2

IP - Acacia 3

I was a little disappointed with my recent foray into dyeing with acacia so I thought I'd give it another shot. For the first experiment, I added iron powder to the wool after I dyed it with the wattle blossoms and in the process lost most of the acacia yellow and ended up with lots of grey streaks.

Figuring I didn't have anything to lose, I boiled up another pot of wattle blossoms and chucked one skein of the wool from the failed experiment into the new acacia dye bath. The wattle trees from the first experiment had stopped blossoming so I used blossoms from another type of wattle that was flowering.

The water turned a lovely murky yellow and things were looking promising. However, once I'd washed off the excess dye and dried the wool it was back to a pale yellow (although a little darker this time) with grey streaks. I'm still not loving those grey streaks but I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to salvage this skein of wool.

Luckily (?) I have two acacia yellow and grey streak skeins (I got a bit carried away the first time!) so I can continue to experiment with dyeing over the top and see what happens! Note to self - start out small when experimenting so you don't end up with lots of something you don't like / can't use.
