Spring has just begun and sour grass season is almost over already. To most people oxalis is a weed. For my girls, it's fun to pick and suck on the sour stems. For me, the little yellow nodding bonnets are happy reminders of sunshine and light. I take comfort in the seasons. Cycling back to the end of winter in the Darebin Parklands and the blooming of the flowers.
I have been picking the sour flowers and storing them in the freezer until I am ready to dye again. Their season is so short and for some reason I'm not dyeing anything at the moment. The urge to get the dye pots bubbling on the stove will return I am sure. When it does, I'll be able to take my sour flowers out of the freezer and use them to paint fabric with colour.
