2019 Poetry Challenge Week 7 Words

Instagram Story Week 7 Poem

Week 7 words from @claire.kirkup: pegs, save, prodigal, shaving, motel.

she pegs shadows
on broken heartstrings
in the spaces between the trees

save the best for last
her mother always told her
so she folds it deep
beneath her prodigal heart

shaving regret from the tomb
of broken memories
like peeling back
the layers of an onion

she checks into the motel
of wayward ideas
and independent oddfellows
home at last

Here are the words and my poem for the seventh week of the 2019 Poetry Challenge.

This week's words were tough. When I first read them, they seemed like a story in themselves, however, I struggled to turn them into a poem. This is my fourth attempt. I'm getting there. I'm not entirely happy with it yet but I thought I'd better post something for week seven before week eight was over!

If you want to join the 2019 Poetry Challenge, head on over to my Instagram account where I post the words for the week on Mondays in my story. Be sure to tag me and use the hashtags #2019poetrychallenge and #livepoetsclub. If you're not on Instagram, post your finished poem in the comments below so we can all read your masterpiece.

Happy writing!
